The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Inspector is tasked with diagnosing, repairing, and inspecting both military and civilian wheeled equipment, including light, medium, and heavy vehicles, as well as power generation and ground support systems. This role involves collaboration with team members to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Lead and coordinate the activities of fellow mechanics, ensuring that maintenance teams deliver exceptional service to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct inspections, tests, and operational checks on wheeled equipment (both commercial and military) to assess serviceability and functionality.
  • Utilize automated logistics systems to maintain accurate equipment records and document maintenance activities.
  • Perform disassembly, repair, cleaning, corrosion treatment, reassembly, and installation of various components and accessories.
  • Ensure proper disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with environmental regulations at all levels.
  • Operate, clean, inspect, and service wheeled equipment as part of routine maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring accountability for property and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Engage with various repair and testing tools, including welders, torches, pressure testers, and electrical testing devices.
  • Execute additional tasks as assigned to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Job responsibilities may evolve based on contractual obligations.

EQUIPMENT & MATERIALS USED:

  • Frequent use of basic shop tools, diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, air tools, and lifting apparatus.
  • Steel-toed footwear and personal protective equipment (PPE) are mandatory in designated areas.
  • PPE may include face masks, headgear, foot protection, hand protection, and hearing protection.
  • Occasional use of computer systems and multifunction devices.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work primarily occurs in a shop setting, with potential outdoor tasks subject to varying weather conditions.
  • Physical demands include stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, and occasionally working in confined or awkward positions.
  • Exposure to inclement weather, extreme temperatures, humidity, dust, and confined spaces is common.
  • A standard workweek consists of 40 hours, typically over five days.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours may be required based on mission needs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders and stairs, as well as bend, twist, and squat for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift, push, and pull weights up to 50 pounds.
  • Function effectively in various environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures and confined spaces.
Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of three to six years of experience in wheeled equipment maintenance or a related field.
  • Possession of a valid State Driver's License without restrictions.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Maintaining driving privileges on relevant installations is necessary.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening is mandatory.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Proficiency in servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing military and civilian wheeled power generation and ground support equipment.
  • Familiarity with electronic technical manuals is essential.
  • Knowledge of GCSS-Army is preferred.
