The Baltimore City Public School System seeks a dedicated individual to provide leadership in the areas of robotics and STEM enrichment programs across the district. This role involves supporting educational leaders and instructors to enhance existing opportunities and create new avenues for students to engage in robotics and authentic STEM experiences. The coordinator will establish and nurture partnerships with organizations to broaden STEM access for students and ensure equitable distribution of programming.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enhance student participation in high-quality robotics initiatives and authentic STEM enrichment activities.
  • Oversee current and future district-operated programs, including FLL Jr., FLL, VEX IQ, and VEX robotics initiatives.
    • Recruit new teams and maintain ongoing communication with existing teams.
    • Ensure teams fulfill registration requirements.
    • Distribute and manage equipment for teams, ensuring compliance with program standards.
    • Administer program operations, including budget planning and grant applications.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all partners supporting robotics and STEM enrichment.
  • Manage and enhance summer STEM programs, including robotics and related initiatives.
  • Oversee all district-owned competition equipment and robotics resources.
    • Maintain an accurate inventory.
    • Coordinate transportation of equipment for events.
    • Procure and repair equipment as necessary.
    • Be present to oversee equipment logistics during events.
  • Establish effective communication channels with robotics coaches and STEM program leaders.
  • Plan and support major STEM competitions, including various citywide events.
  • Maintain a regular presence with teams by visiting them weekly.
  • Develop a system for data collection and evaluation of supported programs.
  • Organize professional development opportunities for robotics coaches and STEM program leaders.
  • Provide targeted technical assistance to coaches, teams, and school leaders to foster program success.
  • Support local teams at state and national competitions.
  • Ensure compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies, adhering to relevant laws and regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Education or a related field, such as engineering, from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience in K-12 education, preferably in STEM disciplines.
  • Valid Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Advanced Professional Certificate.
  • Proficient in budget management and accounting practices.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively with staff and community partners.
  • Strong analytical skills for data analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Interpersonal skills that foster effective teamwork and networking.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and preferred programming experience.
  • Experience as an FLL or VEX event partner is advantageous.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technology issues independently.
  • Experience in planning and managing logistics for large-scale events.
  • Innovative problem-solving skills to expand student opportunities in robotics and STEM.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
