Position Overview:

The role of the Patient Access Representative is crucial as it serves as the initial point of interaction for patients. This position embodies the values of Mercy by delivering outstanding customer service and compassion in every interaction.

Key Responsibilities:

The Patient Access Representative will oversee various aspects of patient entry into Mercy facilities, which may encompass:

  • Appointment scheduling
  • Patient registration
  • Insurance benefit verification
  • Pre-certification processes
  • Financial clearance, including pre-visit collections
It is essential for this role to ensure the accuracy of patient information, which will be recorded meticulously in the patient database. Attention to detail is paramount, along with a comprehensive understanding of insurance providers, Medicare regulations, and compliance with federal and state guidelines.

Qualifications:
  • Experience: Proven understanding of responsibilities at a foundational level, with experience in dealing with various insurance plans and the ability to execute financial clearance processes.
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required; some college education is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical abilities are necessary. The candidate must be capable of managing stressful situations, adhering to deadlines, and performing daily tasks with consistent accuracy.
  • Communication: Effective communication skills are required, with the ability to provide clear written and verbal instructions to colleagues.
  • Relationship Management: The ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance representatives is essential.
  • Physical Requirements: The position involves the ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs regularly, along with prolonged periods of standing and walking. The role also requires physical agility, including gripping, reaching, bending, kneeling, twisting, and squatting.
