GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:

The Field Service Technician and CDL Operator is a vital field-based role responsible for operating various vehicles to transport company equipment. The main objective is to effectively plan and execute a safe and efficient bulk filling cycle for both GF and TOR units across multiple friction management clients. Key responsibilities include vehicle maintenance, compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations (including maintaining accurate logbooks), and assisting in the servicing and upkeep of railroad lubrication equipment as per customer specifications.

New Hire Training Incentive: $1000 at 90 days & $1500 at 6 months (dependent on job performance)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Operational Excellence and Maintenance:

  • Ensure the truck and trailer are well-maintained during possession and after trips, including necessary servicing.
  • Confirm that equipment is loaded correctly, with proper weight distribution, secured, and protected for transport.
  • Safely operate the vehicle to and from job sites.

Planning:

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Manager/FM Planner to create a monthly filling plan.
  • Identify units needing filling based on previous fill dates and monitoring reports.
  • Assess material requirements and communicate needs to the Assistant Manager/planner.
  • Anticipate delivery times and locations for materials.
  • Consider lead times for material availability when planning.
  • Coordinate time off with management, factoring in route scheduling.

Compliance:

  • Conduct DOT inspections as per regulations.
  • Maintain an accurate and current DOT logbook.
  • Obtain necessary special permits as required.
  • Document all materials ordered and received as part of the truck's inventory.

Functional/Technical Skills:

  • Service lubrication units according to specified guidelines.
  • Implement lubrication service programs for railroad clients.
  • Utilize logical methods to resolve issues effectively.
  • Comprehend and adhere to general railroad and Loram operational standards.

Managing and Measuring Work:

  • Oversee inventory on the maintenance vehicle following company protocols.
  • Plan work based on task complexity, develop schedules, and adjust for potential issues to meet objectives.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently.

Written Communication:

  • Process work orders and complete all necessary documentation through approved company channels.

Verbal Communications:

  • Maintain communication with the Manager and FM Service Technicians to ensure timely material deliveries and completion of service work.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience: Minimum of 1 year in a customer service environment related to Loram Maintenance of Way equipment. Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Demonstrated technical skills in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and machine operations. Experience managing 24-hour operations and focusing on machine maintenance for optimal performance and safety. Proven ability to learn best practices and improve maintenance processes.

Licenses/Certifications: Required certifications to operate on track and Loram Operating Rules Certification. Must hold a valid CDL Driver's License and DOT Medical Card.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate Degree with Technical Certification
