Role Overview
This position will report to a Senior Managing Counsel within the Commercial and Money Movement Solutions (CMS) Legal team.

Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Counsel, you will:

  • Provide comprehensive legal guidance and support to the CMS division on a variety of intricate commercial issues and initiatives, including Visa Direct, Visa+, and other CMS offerings.
  • Navigate the intricate regulatory environment surrounding money movement, collaborating with experienced attorneys across various regions.
  • Engage and oversee external legal counsel on diverse matters, critically evaluating legal analyses and translating them into clear, actionable advice for business teams.
  • Contribute to Visa's leadership in money movement and assist in the development of innovative products and services.
  • Understand Visa's strategic objectives, recognizing interconnections between legal matters and proactively addressing them to mitigate legal risks.
  • Manage daily legal inquiries and spearhead all pertinent legal activities.
  • Educate business units on legal frameworks, processes, and policies.
  • Build and maintain relationships to ensure effective legal support delivery, coordinating with various Visa departments globally.
  • Proactively enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Legal, Ethics & Compliance division.

Work Environment
This is a hybrid role, allowing for a blend of remote and office work. Employees are expected to work from the office 2-3 designated days per week, with a general expectation of being present in the office at least 50% of the time based on business requirements.

Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who possess:

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's Degree, or at least 8 years with an Advanced Degree, or 3 years with a PhD.
  • Admission to practice law in the United States and good standing.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Strong academic credentials.

Preferred Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have:

  • 12 or more years of experience with a Bachelor's Degree or 8-10 years with an Advanced Degree, or 6+ years with a PhD.
  • Experience in commercial law and regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
  • A solid understanding of in-house operations within a large technology firm.
  • A keen interest in becoming a subject matter expert in the payments sector.

Additional Information
Work Hours: Varies based on departmental needs.
Travel Requirements: This role may require travel 5-10% of the time.
Mental/Physical Requirements: The position will be performed in an office environment, requiring the ability to sit and stand at a desk, communicate effectively, and operate standard office equipment.
