Required:
  • High School Graduate or GED with a minimum of 3 years of professional experience beyond high school or completion of a 2-year college or vocational/technical program.
  • Two years of relevant experience in food and nutrition or similar fields.
  • Creative and innovative approach to educational programming.
  • Proficient in public speaking and writing.
  • Experience in engaging with diverse groups, including schools and community organizations.
  • Valid Driver's license.
  • Proof of citizenship or authorization to work in the United States.
  • Effective communication skills in English.

Key Duties:

Delivering Educational Programs:
Facilitates nutrition education sessions for families with limited resources. Conducts food demonstrations and engages in activities aimed at recruitment and education within local community organizations and educational institutions. Organizes special programs and events tailored to specific communities and schools as needed. Recruits participants in designated areas to provide nutrition lessons.

Coordinating with Community Agencies:
Plans and collaborates with community organizations or educational institutions to schedule regular group teaching sessions and special events targeting the intended audience. Organizes individual or group teaching sessions on a consistent basis.

Assessing Needs and Reporting:
Evaluates participants' nutritional needs using program tools and makes referrals to appropriate community resources. Assists expectant and new mothers in developing personalized nutrition education plans through hands-on experiences, including food preparation activities. Implements nutrition education strategies to meet program objectives and routinely collects and compiles program data for reporting purposes.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus.


Additional Responsibilities:
Participates in all required training sessions, which may include some overnight travel. Identifies and engages target audiences as volunteers in teaching and program support. Ensures compliance with the Civil Rights/Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action plan of the South Carolina State University 1890 Extension in all assigned program responsibilities, ensuring that clientele understand that Extension offers educational programs, assistance, and materials to all individuals without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, or disability.

Travel Requirements:
Travel within the region may be necessary, with occasional overnight travel required.

This position is federally funded by Section 1444, Agricultural Extension Activities at 1890 Land-Grant Institutions.
