Note: Candidates must either reside in these counties or be prepared to relocate.

Under direct supervision, the incumbent will learn to conduct inspections of red meat, related products, and processing facilities to ensure adherence to legal standards. This role encompasses both pre-slaughter and post-slaughter inspections. A personal vehicle or reliable transportation is required. While the primary focus will be on the designated areas, occasional travel outside of the assigned regions may be necessary, though it is anticipated to be less than 15% of total travel.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Meat Inspector 1: $39,000. Candidates must possess a vocational or technical degree in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, pest control, entomology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution; or a high school diploma or GED accompanied by one year of relevant experience; or two years of college coursework including 12 semester/20 quarter hours in chemistry or life sciences.

Meat Inspector 2: $43,000. Candidates must have a vocational or technical degree in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, pest control, entomology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution along with one year of experience in a directly related field; or two years of college coursework including 12 semester/20 quarter hours in chemistry or life sciences and one year of directly related experience; or two years of experience at the lower level (RCT090) or an equivalent position.

IMPORTANT: The selected candidate will be required to complete USDA Inspection Methods training at the earliest opportunity after hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications, demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:

·Experience in State or Federal Meat Inspection or Food Inspection.

·Completion of a bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Animal Science, Environmental Science, Biology, or a closely related field.

·Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
