POSITION OVERVIEW:

This role is designated for the following counties:

CLARKE, HART, OGLETHORPE

Applicants must either reside in these counties or be willing to relocate.

Under direct supervision, the incumbent will learn to evaluate red meat, related products, and meat processing facilities to ensure adherence to legal standards. This includes conducting both pre-slaughter and post-slaughter inspections. A personal vehicle or transportation is required for this position. The role may necessitate travel to adjacent areas as program needs dictate, although travel outside the assigned area is anticipated to be less than 15% of total travel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Meat Inspector 1: $39,000 - A vocational or technical degree in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, pest control, entomology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution; or a high school diploma or GED accompanied by one year of relevant experience; or two years of college coursework that includes 12 semester/20 quarter hours in chemistry or life sciences.

Meat Inspector 2: $43,000 - A vocational or technical degree in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, pest control, entomology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution along with one year of experience in a directly related field; or two years of college coursework that includes 12 semester/20 quarter hours in chemistry or life sciences and one year of directly related experience; or two years of experience at the lower level (RCT090) or an equivalent position.

NOTE: The selected candidate will be required to complete USDA Inspection Methods training upon hiring at the earliest opportunity.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications, demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:

  • Experience in State or Federal Meat Inspection or Food Inspection.
  • A bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Animal Science, Environmental Science, Biology, or a closely related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
