Job Summary

The Department of Food & Agriculture is seeking a highly skilled Brand Inspector to join our team. As a Brand Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of the livestock industry by enforcing brand registration and inspection laws.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough inspections of livestock at stockyards, shipping points, ranches, slaughterhouses, and feedlots to verify brand registration and ownership.
  • Investigate allegations of livestock theft and estray cases, working closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Collaborate with ranchers, feedlot operators, and other industry stakeholders to educate them on brand registration and inspection requirements.
  • Prepare and process transmittals, reports, and other documentation related to brand inspections and investigations.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of livestock branding methods, animal husbandry practices, and relevant laws and regulations.
Requirements
  • Valid California Driver License (CDL) and a good driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and make sound judgments.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent travel to rural areas and varying weather conditions.
Working Conditions

The Brand Inspector will work primarily outdoors, conducting inspections and investigations at various livestock facilities. The position requires the ability to work in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, and to lift and carry equipment as needed.
