Position Overview

Key Responsibilities and Qualifications

The following qualifications are essential for the successful execution of the role:

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline is required. Alternatively, an Associate's degree in engineering or a related field combined with relevant electric utility experience may be acceptable.
  • At least one year of professional experience as an electrical engineer, preferably within the electric utility sector.
  • Possession of a valid Vehicle Operator's license in the State of Michigan.
  • A comprehensive understanding of electric generation, transmission, distribution, and metering principles.
  • Proficient knowledge of per unit electrical calculations and symmetrical components theory is essential.
  • Familiarity with substation DC Control schematics and AC 3-line diagrams is necessary.
  • Understanding of transients and harmonics is required.
  • Expertise in designing and developing electric generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), National Electrical Code (NEC), and other relevant regulations is important.
  • A general understanding of business management, contract administration, and project management is preferred.
  • Proficiency in using various electrical testing and control devices is essential.
  • Ability to analyze complex engineering challenges and make informed decisions.
  • Skilled in utilizing office equipment and software applications, including CAD, GIS, spreadsheets, word processing, and database management.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, are necessary to interact positively with colleagues, contractors, vendors, and the public.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess situations critically, solve problems, and work efficiently under pressure and changing priorities.
  • Self-motivated with the initiative to work independently and ensure timely project completion.
  • Additionally, the role requires proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language, as well as the ability to follow instructions and perform essential duties consistently.
