Position Summary

The role of the Supportive Care Counselor involves ensuring the safety and well-being of clients within the facility. This includes conducting regular inspections and monitoring client interactions. Responsibilities also encompass assisting with administrative tasks, meal support, and managing behavioral issues as they arise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain effective communication with team members to ensure all responsibilities are fulfilled and provide assistance as necessary.
  • Facilitate client transportation when required.
  • Oversee client check-in and check-out processes.
  • Handle incoming calls during designated hours.
  • Conduct hourly security assessments of the facility.
  • Report any safety concerns or maintenance needs to the supervising manager.
  • Observe and document client behavior, encouraging participation in daily living activities as needed.
  • Supervise client activities throughout the facility.
  • Ensure clients adhere to prescribed medication regimens and accurately document any emergency medication dispensed.
  • Initiate and participate in the reporting and investigation of incidents as necessary.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies or challenging situations, notifying appropriate personnel as required.
  • Assist in crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Serve as a positive role model for clients, demonstrating reliability, professionalism, and integrity.
  • Engage in team meetings and training sessions as scheduled.
  • Support the treatment team in coordinating emergency transportation for medical or psychiatric needs.
  • Maintain a professional and objective relationship with clients at all times.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of one year of experience in mental health, social services, or counseling.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team and engage positively with clients and the public.
  • Capability to assess client safety and intervene appropriately.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and remain composed in crisis situations.
  • Experience working with adult clients.
  • Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts and hours.
  • Willingness to perform indoor and outdoor tasks as required.
  • Ability to maintain objectivity and firmness with clients experiencing psychiatric challenges.
  • Willingness to accept guidance from supervisors and complete assigned tasks.
  • Ability to provide appropriate direction to clients.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and basic counseling skills.
  • Capability to administer emergency medications as needed.
Educational Background

Required
  • High School Diploma
Preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Sciences or a related field.
Additional Requirements
  • Successful completion of background checks.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Clearance for tuberculosis.
  • Acceptable driving record for insurance purposes.
  • Completion of fire and safety training, first aid certification, and CPR certification within specified timeframes.
  • Training in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) within the designated onboarding period.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the job with reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
  • Approximately 50% of the time spent sitting, with frequent walking, standing, and bending required. Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds may be necessary.
