Portland, Oregon, United States SAIC Full time

We are seeking a qualified, part-time Air Traffic Control Training Specialist to become a member of the SAIC Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team. This role involves providing essential training services for air traffic controllers.

The CTS Training Specialist position is hands-on and requires the individual to consistently deliver high-quality instruction in both classroom and simulation environments to a diverse group of students, including both novice air traffic controllers and Certified Professional Controllers (CPC).

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is tasked with ensuring that air traffic control professionals maintain a high standard of safety and professionalism. A well-prepared air traffic control workforce is vital to fulfilling this mission, as the FAA employs over 14,000 air traffic controllers who manage the safe separation of more than 50,000 aircraft daily.

To support these air traffic services, the FAA provides training for new air traffic control specialists and ongoing training for current personnel. The FAA relies on contractor-provided instructional services at various ATC facilities across the U.S. and its territories to meet these training demands.

The contractor's responsibilities encompass all aspects of training and program support necessary to prepare students for certification as air traffic controllers. SAIC is committed to delivering training and related support services for all types and levels of ATC facilities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory, with the capability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • The candidate must possess a minimum of five (5) years of FAA CPC experience managing live air traffic or recent experience as a contract instructor at an FAA facility.
  • Experience must be at the same type and level of ATC facility as required for this position.

The ideal candidate will exhibit strong technical skills with current ATC automation, simulation systems, and procedures. This role will also involve mentoring students and Remote Pilot Operators (RPO), as well as contributing to curriculum design and development.

The selected individual must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve radar and/or non-radar simulation laboratory certifications at FAA air traffic control facilities.

Desired Skills and Experience:

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Direct experience as a Certified Professional Controller (CPC) at a comparable ATC facility.
  • Operational experience with ATC simulators, including scenario design for simulation platforms.
  • Proven ability to effectively collaborate with FAA personnel at all levels to ensure that training services align with the needs of the local facility and the FAA's overarching air traffic control mission.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and platform skills, classroom management techniques, and a commitment to continuous improvement focused on student success.
Education:

A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. Additionally, FAA Certified Professional Controller (CPC) certification is mandatory, along with the ability to obtain and maintain Instructor-II Simulation Laboratory Certification.
