About the Opportunity

West Virginia University Research Corporation is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our team in the Department of Biochemistry. As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research projects focused on investigating the mechanistic roles of protein machinery involved in protein degradation. Our research group uses a combination of in vitro and in vivo methods, including mechanistic enzymology, cell culture, and C. elegans, to understand the fundamental mechanisms of protein degradation and its applications to cancer and neurodegenerative disease.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field, and experience in enzymology, protein purification, and cell culture. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to design and conduct experiments, contribute to peer-reviewed journals, and work effectively with others in a dynamic research environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct experiments rigorously and independently
  • Contribute to peer-reviewed journals
  • Develop strong scientific writing skills
  • Assist in mentoring junior lab members
  • Work effectively with others
  • Manage time and workload effectively

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field
  • Experience in enzymology, protein purification, and cell culture
  • Basic biomedical wet lab skills, including PAGE, western blotting, PCR, and site-directed mutagenesis
  • Cell culture and general biochemistry knowledge
