Job Overview

SUMMARY

The Process Engineering Specialist will provide expert technical assistance in MPT process technologies, focusing on process engineering. This role involves offering guidance and training to personnel across various disciplines to enhance product design and performance. The specialist will also play a key role in quality initiatives and act as a technical liaison for R&D projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Effectively prioritize and manage daily tasks to address both external customer inquiries and internal requests.
  • Prepare precise calculations, including non-standard ones, as well as PFDs, P&IDs, proposal estimates, and specifications, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery.
  • Respond promptly to client requirements with technically sound solutions.
  • Perform calculations for material and heat balance data relevant to the specified technology.
  • Determine flow requirements and size piping and pumps according to industry standards, MPT guidelines, and customer specifications.
  • Complete process and materials data on equipment datasheets accurately.
  • Develop Process Flow Diagrams for the assigned technology.
  • Conduct P&ID walk-downs for technologies manufactured by Merichem.
  • Validate calculations, material and heat balance data, equipment sizing, and datasheet information prepared by fellow Process Engineers.
  • Utilize designated software, models, and spreadsheets for sizing proprietary equipment.
  • Create Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for the designated technology.
  • Assist Principal and Senior Process Engineers in delivering project objectives.
  • Meet individual performance targets established by the Supervisor.
  • Continuously enhance our commitment to excellence in Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security practices.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor of Engineering degree is required.
  • A degree in Chemical Engineering is preferred.
  • At least 3 years of relevant technical experience in a refinery, petrochemical, gas processing, E&C company, or similar industry is essential.
  • Familiarity with specialized software such as Promax, ChemCad, and Microsoft Office is advantageous.
  • An engineering background in a refinery or petrochemical setting, with knowledge of PFDs, P&IDs, equipment sizing, and basic engineering package development, is preferred.
  • Experience in process simulation is a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to collect data, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines is crucial.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team-oriented environment, providing support across various departments and levels within the organization.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

EXPECTED WORK HOURS

  • Must be available to work a standard schedule, with the possibility of additional hours as required by job duties.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Willingness to travel 20% or more, both domestically and internationally.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and passport.
  • Must be insurable under the company's liability insurance policy.

  • Ability to climb stairs and lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to use hands to grasp objects.
  • Ability to see clearly and judge distances and spatial relationships.
  • Routine physical exertion is required, including standing, walking, and climbing.
  • Job may require visits to oil refineries and chemical plants, including climbing ladders up to 50 ft.
  • Must be able to use personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Hazards:
    1. May encounter environments where toxic chemicals are present.
    2. Site visits may involve exposure to caustic materials, strong acids, hydrocarbons, and potential H2S exposure, necessitating additional testing (e.g., PPE, drug testing).
