Position Overview
The Nursing Supervisor is accountable for delivering direct patient care and supporting the manager in daily operational activities. This includes, but is not limited to, the coordination of patient care and outcomes, management of human and financial resources, effective communication, patient throughput, program development, and oversight. The role also involves rounding with patients, physicians, and staff, as well as overseeing the selection, development, and retention of nursing personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices and service administration.
- Assist in the recruitment, selection, and supervision of nursing staff.
- Facilitate communication through regular staff meetings and huddles.
- Collaborate with management to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and policies.
- Conduct rounds to assess patient care and satisfaction levels.
- Delegate care responsibilities to appropriate healthcare team members.
- Identify expected outcomes to guide continuity of care and departmental operations.
- Evaluate progress towards goals and share information with involved team members.
- Provide nursing care, assist with treatments, and administer medications as required.
- Manage patient flow and staffing through continuous assessment of needs.
Physical Requirements
This role requires physical activities such as walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, and bending. The ability to lift and support up to 35 pounds is necessary for handling patients and medical supplies. Proficiency in English is required, along with intact senses and finger dexterity. Critical thinking and concentration are essential.
Qualifications
Applicants must be graduates of an accredited School of Nursing with current RN licensure in the appropriate state. A minimum of two years of nursing experience is preferred, along with previous management experience. A BSN is required, and candidates without a BSN must enroll in a BSN program within one year of hire. BLS certification is mandatory per policy guidelines, and appropriate professional certification is required within one year of eligibility.
