Position Overview

The Nursing Supervisor is accountable for delivering direct patient care and assisting the management team with daily operational functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the coordination of patient care and outcomes, management of human and financial resources, effective communication, patient throughput, program development, and oversight. The role also involves rounding with patients, physicians, and staff, as well as the selection, development, and retention of nursing personnel, clinical supervision, performance evaluations, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enhance the quality and efficiency of nursing practices and administration within the department.
  • Participate in the recruitment, selection, and supervision of nursing staff.
  • Facilitate communication through regular staff meetings and huddles to promote information exchange.
  • Collaborate with management to ensure adherence to federal and state regulations related to healthcare services.
  • Conduct rounds on patients and staff to assess satisfaction and appropriateness of care.
  • Delegate care responsibilities to qualified healthcare personnel in accordance with legal and policy guidelines.
  • Assist in establishing expected outcomes to guide continuity of care and departmental operations.
  • Evaluate progress towards achieving goals and share relevant information with the care team.
  • Provide nursing care, assist with treatments, and administer medications as needed.
  • Manage patient flow and staffing by continuously assessing volume and acuity needs.

Physical Requirements

This role requires mobility, including walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. The ability to lift and support up to 35 pounds is necessary for handling patients and medical equipment. Proficiency in English is required, along with intact sensory functions and finger dexterity. Critical thinking and focus are essential.

Qualifications

Applicants must be graduates of an accredited School of Nursing with current RN licensure in the appropriate state. A minimum of two years of nursing experience is preferred, along with previous management experience. A BSN is required, and RN candidates without a BSN must enroll in a BSN program within one year of hire or transfer and complete it within three years. BLS certification is required per policy, and appropriate professional certification must be obtained within one year of eligibility.
