Role Summary:

The Patient Care Technician I is responsible for delivering essential patient care services and support. This role encompasses addressing the personal, physical, and emotional needs of patients across all age groups, including neonates, children, adults, and the elderly, as well as their families. The practice aligns with the core values, objectives, policies, and procedures established by the Nursing Department and Medical Center administration.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Aids in the provision of patient care by executing specific tasks as per the scope of service and under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.

2. Assists with patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and transportation.

3. Measures and records vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, weight, and blood glucose levels, promptly reporting any abnormalities to the primary nurse.

4. Demonstrates proficiency in advanced skills, including but not limited to: oral suctioning, administering enemas (excluding Fleets enemas), changing clean dressings post RN assessment, setting up tube feeding, managing external catheters, providing post-mortem care, and preparing suction canisters.

5. Engages in effective communication with healthcare team members to exchange information and collaboratively address issues in a constructive manner, both verbally and electronically.

6. Offers personalized care to patients and their families, identifying and documenting any special needs.

7. Leverages available educational resources, nursing literature, and personnel for professional development, attending mandatory training sessions to maintain competencies.

8. Utilizes materials, equipment, and time in a safe, therapeutic, and cost-effective manner.

9. Assists with designated tasks during emergency situations (e.g., CPR, equipment retrieval) under the direction of the Code Blue Team.

10. Follows organizational infection control protocols and safety policies, including the use of two identifiers when collecting blood samples or performing procedures.

11. Aids in maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in the unit, including:

a. Cleaning treatment rooms, showers, commodes, and IV poles after use.

b. Ensuring kitchens (refrigerators, ice machines, sinks, counters) are clean as assigned.

c. Tidying nursing stations and emptying trash as requested.

d. Maintaining cleanliness in storage areas, linen rooms, and staff lounges as needed.

e. Restocking and organizing patient care supplies.

13. Demonstrates consistent and reliable attendance.

14. Performs additional duties as necessary.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • AHA BLS healthcare provider certification is required within 90 days of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of high school-level subjects, including sciences, basic medical procedures, and terminology.

Work Type: Full-Time

Standard Hours: 40.00

Work Schedule: Night shift, 5 shifts per week, 11 PM - 7:30 AM, with alternating weekends and rotating holidays.
