Patient Care Associate I

Role Summary: The Patient Care Technician I is responsible for delivering essential patient care services and support. This role focuses on meeting the personal, physical, and emotional needs of patients across various age groups, including neonates, children, adults, and the elderly, while adhering to the standards and policies of the healthcare facility.
Key Responsibilities:- Facilitates patient care by executing specific tasks as directed by the Registered Nurse.
- Assists with patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and transportation.
- Records vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, weight, and blood glucose levels, promptly reporting any abnormalities to the primary nurse.
- Demonstrates proficiency in advanced procedures, including oral suctioning, clean dressing changes after RN assessment, tube feeding setup, and post-mortem care.
- Maintains effective communication with healthcare team members to share critical information and resolve issues collaboratively.
- Documents patient information clearly on all required forms using standardized abbreviations.
- Receives patient reports from the RN and outgoing technician at the start of the shift, and provides comprehensive reports at the end of the shift.
- Engages in walking rounds with incoming and outgoing staff during shift changes.
- Delivers personalized care to patients and their families, identifying and documenting any special needs.
- Utilizes educational resources and participates in mandatory training to enhance professional development and maintain competency.
- Employs materials and equipment safely and efficiently to ensure cost-effective patient care.
- Assists in emergency situations under the guidance of the Code Blue Team.
- Follows organizational infection control protocols and safety policies, including the use of two identifiers for procedures.
- Contributes to the cleanliness and organization of the unit, including treatment rooms, kitchens, and supply areas.
- Embodies the core values of the organization: Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Compassion, and Honor.
- Exhibits consistent and reliable attendance.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- AHA BLS healthcare provider certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Basic understanding of high school-level subjects, including science and medical terminology.
- No specific licenses or certifications required.
Work Environment:
Manual Skills: Requires some manual dexterity and coordination.
Occupational Risks: May involve some occupational hazards.
Physical Demands: Requires heavy physical effort, potentially lifting up to 50 lbs.
