Position Summary:
The Patient Care Technician I is responsible for delivering essential patient care and non-professional services. This role addresses the personal, physical, and emotional needs of patients across all age groups, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics, while aligning with the Nursing Department's philosophy and policies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support patient care delivery by executing specific tasks as directed by the Registered Nurse.
2. Assist with patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and transportation.
3. Accurately measure and document vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, weight, and blood glucose levels, promptly reporting any abnormalities to the primary nurse.
4. Exhibit proficiency in advanced skills such as oral suctioning, clean dressing changes post-RN assessment, tube feeding setup, and post-mortem care.
5. Maintain effective communication with healthcare team members to share information and resolve issues positively and efficiently.
6. Provide individualized care to patients and families, identifying and documenting special needs.
7. Engage in professional development through available educational resources and mandatory in-services.
8. Utilize materials and equipment safely and cost-effectively.
9. Participate in code situations under the guidance of the Code Blue Team.
10. Follow organizational infection control practices and safety policies diligently.
11. Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization within the unit, including treatment rooms and common areas.
12. Uphold and exemplify the organization's core values: Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Compassion, and Honor.
13. Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance.
14. Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- AHA BLS healthcare provider certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- General understanding of high school-level subjects, including sciences and basic medical procedures.
Licensure/Certification:
- Not applicable.
Working Conditions:
- Some manual dexterity and motor coordination required.
- Exposure to occupational risks and physical demands, including the ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force.
- Potential exposure to various environmental factors.
