Position Summary:
The Patient Care Technician I is responsible for delivering essential patient care services and support. This role involves addressing the personal, physical, and emotional needs of patients across various age groups, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics, while adhering to the Nursing Department's philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Aids in the provision of patient care by executing specific tasks as directed by the Registered Nurse.
2. Assists with patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and transportation.
3. Measures and records vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, weight, and blood glucose levels, promptly reporting any abnormalities to the primary nurse.
4. Demonstrates proficiency in advanced skills, including oral suctioning, administering enemas (excluding Fleets enemas), changing dressings post RN assessment, setting up tube feeding, managing external catheters, providing post-mortem care, and preparing suction canisters.
5. Engages in effective communication with healthcare team members to share information and collaboratively resolve issues, both verbally and electronically.
6. Offers personalized care to patients and their families, identifying and documenting any special needs.
7. Utilizes educational resources and participates in mandatory training to maintain competency in the unit.
8. Ensures the safe and efficient use of materials, equipment, and time.
9. Assists in emergency situations (e.g., CPR, obtaining necessary equipment) under the guidance of the Code Blue Team.
10. Complies with organizational infection control practices and safety policies, including the use of two identifiers during procedures.
11. Maintains cleanliness and organization in patient care areas, including treatment rooms, kitchens, and nursing stations.
12. Upholds and exemplifies the REACH values: Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Compassion, and Honor.
13. Demonstrates consistent and reliable attendance.
14. Performs additional duties as required.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- AHA BLS healthcare provider certification is required within 90 days of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic understanding of high school-level subjects, including sciences and medical terminology.
Licensure and Certification:
- N/A
Work Environment:
This position may involve some manual skills, occupational risks, and physical exertion, including lifting up to 50 lbs. Exposure to various conditions such as dirt, odors, and noise may occur.
