Key Responsibilities
  • Residential Duties
    • Respond to family emergencies in a timely and professional manner, adhering to agency protocol.
    • Answer front desk phone calls and handle inquiries in a courteous and professional manner.
    • Complete all necessary shift documentation, including accurate and consistent record-keeping.
    • Document resident service needs and communicate with Case Managers and other services staff as instructed.
    • Attend services team meetings and trainings as directed by supervisor.
    • Ensure household laundry is laundered, maintained, and stored appropriately.
    • Organize and oversee the donation closet, ensuring efficient use of resources.
    • Coordinate and facilitate volunteers for shelter activities and volunteer projects, working closely with the Volunteer Coordinator and facilities team.
    • Maintain ongoing communication with Shelter Assistants, Shelter Operations Manager, and Program Manager to ensure tasks are prioritized and pertinent information is shared.
  • Maintenance Duties
    • Oversee the cleanliness of the emergency shelter, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for residents.
    • Clean and prepare rooms for incoming residents, adhering to bed bug protocol.
    • Conduct regular room inspections to ensure resident rooms are safe and clean, reporting any concerns or issues to Case Managers.
    • Monitor alarms and security systems in accordance with agency protocol.
    • Perform routine inspections of the property, addressing maintenance and repair needs as necessary.
    • Ensure shelters are operated and maintained in compliance with applicable safety requirements, conducting regular checks to ensure outlet plugs are secure and screens are in place.
    • Ensure evacuation maps, exit signs, and other safety postings are prominently displayed and up-to-date.
    • Ensure interior and exterior premises are kept clean, removing trash and litter as needed.
    • Complete severe weather preparations in coordination with the Operations team, ensuring all necessary supplies are on site prior to inclement weather.
  • Customer Service
    • Provide exceptional service to internal and external customers, adhering to standards outlined in the ForKids Customer CARE Manual.
  • Financial Management
    • Use agency resources prudently, acknowledging and following financial policies of the agency.
  • Grants Data Management
    • Accurately complete all required data reporting in accordance with established guidelines.
    • Participate in scheduled data collection trainings to ensure compliance.
  • Community Engagement
    • Participate in development and fundraising activities as needed, working closely with donors and volunteers.
    • Regularly engage, support, and collaborate with volunteers to provide a meaningful experience.
    Qualifications
    • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
    • Prior experience working in the human services field is necessary.
    • Must be familiar with and abide by general program guidelines and grant requirements for each program of the continuum of care.
    • Able to work and engage with a diverse population, including at-risk populations.
    • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately in writing and verbally.
    • Ability to remain calm and objective in a stressful environment, motivating others and diffusing conflict.
    • Computer knowledge and literacy are essential.
    • Must have the ability to lift at least 50 pounds, climb stairs or ladders, stoop, bend, crouch, sit at the computer for long periods, drive agency vehicles, and handle food items.
    • Ability to work weekend or holiday shifts.
    • Valid driver's license with no more than three minor driving violations and/or accidents combined within the last three years, and no major moving violations in the past three years.
