Job Overview:

The primary responsibility of this role is to execute a range of skilled mechanical repairs, diagnostic evaluations, maintenance, and modifications on automotive vehicles, heavy machinery, and construction equipment.

This position involves operating dump trucks and executing snow control and flagging duties as instructed by the Road Superintendent. It is essential to maintain and document all necessary records accurately.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct scheduled maintenance services, diagnose equipment malfunctions, and identify necessary repairs.
  • Perform welding and fabrication tasks based on written and verbal instructions.
  • Rebuild components of automotive and construction machinery, including hydraulic rams, valves, pumps, and brakes.
  • Execute major repairs and overhauls on gas and diesel equipment, covering transmission, differential, front end, hydraulic systems, and related components.
  • Adhere to all policies set forth by the Road Department.
  • Assist office staff and the Working Road Supervisor as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with county, state, and federal safety regulations during maintenance activities.
  • Provide snow control and sanding operations on maintained roads as directed.
  • Maintain a valid Oregon CDL and ICC card.
  • Lift a minimum of 40 pounds and perform various physical tasks throughout the workday.
  • Diagnose malfunctions and safety issues on vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Read and interpret timecards, service records, and operator manuals.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Capability to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Proficient in operating vehicles and heavy equipment for testing and diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of road maintenance and repair equipment.
  • Ability to complete tasks under pressure with shifting priorities.
  • Familiarity with Federal Motor Carrier Regulations.
  • Physical ability to lift weights and maneuver between different equipment.
  • Understanding of mechanical principles and safety precautions in the trade.
  • Experience with testing equipment for various automotive and heavy machinery systems.
  • Five years of professional experience as a diesel and gas mechanic.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in heavy equipment and automotive mechanics.
  • Valid CDL for the State of Oregon upon hire.
  • Ability to pass a thorough employment and/or criminal history check.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test.
  • Valid ICC Medical Card and Oregon Traffic Control Certification.
  • Certified welder preferred.
