Building Maintenance Technician

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The primary objective of this role is to execute semi-skilled tasks related to extensive cleaning, including mopping, scrubbing, stripping, and refinishing, while ensuring the cleanliness, organization, aesthetic appeal, and safety of the premises and grounds through diligent upkeep and repair.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Facilities Serviceperson and Grounds Maintenance personnel are responsible for the following key duties:

  • Maintain cleanliness in all designated areas within and outside the facility.
  • Adhere to scheduled tasks in accordance with custodial standards.
  • Sanitize and restock restroom facilities, including sinks, toilets, and showers.
  • Manage waste disposal by emptying trash from various locations and ensuring proper disposal methods.
  • Perform landscaping duties such as mowing lawns and trimming hedges using appropriate tools.
  • Replace and clean light fixtures, wash windows, and maintain the exterior appearance of the building.
  • Utilize heavy machinery for cleaning floors, walls, and other surfaces effectively.
  • Dust and maintain furniture and perform minor repairs as necessary.
  • Collect and dispose of debris from outdoor areas.
  • Assist in planting and maintaining flowers, shrubs, and trees as instructed.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in good working order through regular cleaning and servicing.
  • Communicate supply needs to supervisors and report any maintenance issues promptly.
  • Prioritize safety and maintain a secure working environment.
  • Complete tasks competently while accurately recording time and materials used.
  • Engage in activities that promote equal employment and non-discrimination policies.
  • Participate in training programs to enhance skills relevant to job responsibilities.
  • Stay informed about current developments and technical resources related to job functions.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Comply with all applicable laws and organizational policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Experience in custodial work and related trades, including lawn maintenance and sprinkler repair.
  • Ability to complete the Basic Facilities Service training program and obtain certification during the probationary period.
  • Proficiency in operating cleaning and maintenance equipment.
  • Capability to perform heavy lifting and climb ladders as required.
  • Ability to follow instructions in English regarding cleaning and equipment use.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with others.
  • Basic computer skills as necessary for the role.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent GED certification.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position involves heavy work, requiring the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds as needed.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS

Compensation and benefits will align with the District's approved compensation plan. Work hours and calendar will be determined by the School Board.

COMPENSATION

Hourly Rate: $22.75

Shift Differential: $0.35

Work Calendar: 261 days
