Position Overview:

Washington State University (WSU) is launching a comprehensive research and educational initiative to address the increasing demand for computer scientists specializing in cybersecurity. This initiative is backed by substantial funding from the state of Washington.

To facilitate this program across WSU's three campuses, we are looking to recruit up to nine faculty members in the field of cybersecurity.

We welcome applications for permanent full-time tenured/tenure-track/career-track teaching faculty positions in various cybersecurity disciplines at the assistant, associate, or full professor levels.

Areas of focus may include, but are not limited to, systems/application security, privacy-preserving computing, applied cryptography, formal methods for security, machine learning security, hardware security, IoT security, and differential privacy.

Applicants may indicate their preferred WSU campus and desired position level.

The new faculty members will have numerous opportunities for collaboration with significant initiatives within the WSU system, including the WSU-PNNL Advanced Grid Institute, the DOD-funded CySER Institute for cybersecurity, and the NSF-USDA AgAID AI Institute.

WSU is recognized as one of the top 50 public research universities in computer science according to U.S. News and World Report. The university is classified among 108 institutions with 'very high research activity' and has received the 'community engagement' designation from the Carnegie Foundation.

WSU Pullman: The new faculty will join a vibrant community of 37 tenure-track faculty members in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), which has seen significant growth in recent years. With a student population of approximately 1200 undergraduates and 275 graduates, EECS anticipates continued enrollment increases and further faculty recruitment in the coming years. The current faculty includes a member of the National Academy of Engineering and several fellows of national professional organizations, along with numerous award recipients in research.

Pullman is a charming college town, recognized for its quality of life and safety. It consistently ranks highly among the best places to live in Washington and is noted for its excellent school district.

Located east of the Cascade Mountains, Pullman enjoys a dry climate with four distinct seasons, providing ample opportunities for outdoor activities.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates for the Assistant Professor position must possess a Ph.D. in computer science or a related discipline by the time of hire. Those applying for Associate Professor or Professor roles must meet WSU's promotion standards.

All tenure-track candidates should have a record of promising research and a strong commitment to developing a distinguished research and teaching program.

Strong leadership skills and exceptional communication abilities are essential for all candidates. A commitment to teaching excellence at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as a dedication to diversifying the student body, is expected.

Career-track faculty at all levels should demonstrate strong teaching and leadership skills, and may also bring relevant real-world experience in cybersecurity tools and curriculum development.

Recent graduates and graduate students expecting to graduate soon who are passionate about teaching core undergraduate computer science and cybersecurity courses are encouraged to apply.
