Assistant Pastry Chef

Overview:

The Assistant Pastry Chef supports the Executive Pastry Chef in managing the daily operations of the bakery, which includes developing menus, overseeing inventory, and ensuring cost efficiency. This role is crucial for the creation and presentation of various baked goods, including specialty cakes. In the absence of the Executive Pastry Chef, the Assistant Pastry Chef will lead the pastry team.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Production Oversight: Supervise the bakery and icing room operations under the guidance of the Executive Pastry Chef. Generate production schedules based on demand and delegate tasks to bakery staff. Ensure timely completion of all requisitions for various events and dining services.

2. Quality Control: Maintain an in-depth knowledge of all baked products and consistently apply culinary techniques. Conduct daily inspections to ensure product quality, freshness, and presentation meet company standards. Standardize recipes to guarantee uniform quality and innovate new dessert offerings for seasonal events.

3. Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety and maintenance standards, as well as compliance with food storage and preparation regulations. Train and motivate kitchen staff while maintaining a clean and safe working environment.

4. Ingredient Management: Collaborate with purchasing and warehouse teams to ensure the availability of essential ingredients for efficient bakery operations. Assist the Executive Pastry Chef in managing transfers of products to various outlets.

5. Team Leadership: Mentor and guide team members, ensuring compliance with departmental policies. Foster a positive work environment by leading by example and providing performance feedback and coaching as necessary.

6. Equipment Maintenance: Regularly check the condition of kitchen equipment and report any issues promptly. Keep the Executive Pastry Chef informed of any irregularities in bakery operations.

7. Interdepartmental Relations: Build and maintain professional relationships with management and staff across departments. Respond to inquiries with a friendly demeanor and participate in relevant meetings in the absence of the Executive Pastry Chef.

Qualifications:

Education:

Required: Vocational or technical training in Culinary Arts or equivalent experience.

Preferred: Associate's degree or vocational school degree in Culinary Arts.

Work Experience:

2-4 years in a related field.

Supervisory Experience:

1-3 years in a leadership role.
