Position Overview:

The Senior Construction Estimator is essential in crafting and presenting precise and comprehensive cost assessments for a variety of construction initiatives. This role is critical in ensuring that bids are both competitive and profitable, aligning with the strategic goals of the organization and adhering to industry benchmarks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct the creation of thorough and precise cost evaluations for construction projects, encompassing materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.
  • Manage the complete estimating cycle, from initial client inquiries and bid formulation to final proposal submission and contract discussions.
  • Engage with project managers, engineers, architects, and other key stakeholders to collect essential information and clarify project specifications.
  • Examine project documentation, including plans and specifications, to formulate detailed cost estimates.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to guarantee accurate and competitive pricing.
  • Enforce estimating policies, procedures, and standards to maintain consistency, accuracy, and efficiency throughout the estimating process.
  • Conduct cost analysis and value engineering to pinpoint cost-saving opportunities and enhance project budgets.
  • Prepare and deliver comprehensive bid proposals, detailing the scope of work, cost breakdowns, and project timelines.
  • Regularly update cost databases to reflect current pricing information and industry trends in estimates.
  • Offer mentorship and support to junior estimators and project teams regarding estimating methodologies and practices.
Daily Duties:
  • Analyze project plans and specifications to identify key requirements, risks, and opportunities.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to gather necessary information and develop accurate cost estimates.
  • Prepare detailed cost assessments for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor expenses, ensuring thoroughness and precision.
  • Collaborate with project managers to create bid proposals, including the scope of work, cost breakdowns, and project timelines.
  • Continuously monitor and update cost databases to ensure they reflect the latest pricing information and market trends.
  • Conduct cost analysis and value engineering to discover cost-saving opportunities and optimize project budgets.
  • Maintain accurate estimating records and documentation, including cost databases and bid proposals.
  • Participate in bid review meetings, presenting detailed cost estimates and addressing stakeholder inquiries.
Weekly Duties:
  • Facilitate weekly meetings with project teams to review ongoing estimates and resolve any issues.
  • Update the estimating schedule to ensure all deadlines are adhered to.
  • Review feedback from completed projects to identify areas for improvement in future estimates.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior estimators through regular check-ins.
  • Collaborate with procurement teams to review and update supplier and subcontractor pricing.
Monthly Duties:
  • Compile monthly reports on the status of all bids and estimates, including win rates and reasons for unsuccessful bids.
  • Analyze trends in estimating accuracy and adjust processes to enhance precision.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of cost databases to ensure all information is current and reflective of market conditions.
  • Engage with senior leadership to discuss upcoming projects, strategic objectives, and resource requirements.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of estimating software and tools, recommending updates or new solutions as necessary.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

Timeliness and Accuracy of Cost Estimates:
  • Achieve an accuracy rate of at least 95% in cost estimates.
  • Complete 85% of cost estimates within the designated timeframe.
Bid Win Rate:
  • Maintain a win rate of at least 35% for submitted bids.
Efficiency of the Estimating Process:
  • Reduce the cycle time of the estimating process by 10% annually.
  • Implement at least 5 process improvements each year to streamline estimating practices.
Client and Stakeholder Satisfaction:
  • Achieve an average satisfaction score of 4.5 out of 5 in client and stakeholder surveys.
  • Resolve 90% of client and stakeholder issues related to estimating within 5 business days.
Contribution to Organizational Goals:
  • Contribute to an annual revenue growth of at least 10% through successful bids.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving measures that reduce project costs by at least 5% annually.
  • Maintain a record of zero significant estimating errors that negatively impact project outcomes.
