Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our team at The University of Iowa. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient dispensing of medications to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare patient-specific and batch sterile products, including hazardous medications, under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Conduct daily cleanroom maintenance activities, including cleaning and decontamination of equipment and review of maintenance records.
  • Provide exceptional patient service at the triage desk, communicating effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
  • Screen prescriptions for completeness and accuracy, and triage them to the appropriate team member.
  • Enter patient profile information, including demographic data, medication lists, and medical conditions, into our electronic health record system.
  • Fill and refill prescriptions, ensuring accurate labeling and packaging of medications.
  • Perform inventory maintenance activities, including ordering and stocking of medications and supplies.
  • Conduct audits and quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
Requirements
  • Registered with the Pharmacy Board at the time of hire.
  • National certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of post-high school experience and/or education in the natural sciences, or satisfactory completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to perform ratio and proportion equations.
  • Experience in a retail pharmacy setting.
  • Previous healthcare experience, particularly in patient interaction.
  • Experience with inventory management and team collaboration.
