Position Overview

The Surgical Technologist for the Transplant Operating Room is a full-time role with a schedule from 6:30 AM to 7 PM, with varying days. This position requires participation in on-call duties and holiday coverage. While a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is preferred, we are open to considering grandfathered technicians. Additionally, a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory, along with a minimum of two years of surgical technology experience. Experience with abdominal procedures and major vascular surgeries is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program.

Licenses/Certifications: Certification in Basic Life Support and current certification as a Surgical Technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • New Graduates with less than 1 year of experience.
  • Surgical Technologist I: 1 year of experience.
  • Surgical Technologist II: 2-4 years of experience.
  • Surgical Technologist III: 5+ years of experience.

Principal Duties

  • Facilitates unit operations and supports departmental goals by serving as a resource specialist for a designated operating room area or specialty service.
  • Exhibits proficiency in aseptic techniques, advanced surgical practices, and patient care methodologies for all patients undergoing elective and emergency procedures.
  • Ensures the availability and proper functioning of supplies, instruments, and equipment prior to surgical procedures, adhering to the surgeon's preferences and established protocols.
  • Commits to providing safe care to patients, staff, and visitors while complying with all organizational policies, procedures, and standards, including time and supply management.
  • Encourages professional growth and development by fulfilling requirements for continuing education and skills competency; serves as a mentor and resource for less experienced staff, providing orientation and training.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to compassionate care for every community member by creating personalized experiences, embodying Memorial Hermann's service standards.
