Job Overview

The Surgical Technologist will play a crucial role in supporting ocular surgical procedures, ensuring that all surgical instruments are meticulously cleaned, sterilized, and maintained. Experience in ophthalmic surgeries, particularly laser-assisted cataract and oculoplastic procedures, is highly regarded.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare the surgical environment, including the sterile field, by organizing surgical tools, supplies, and equipment while adhering to safety protocols.
  2. Actively participate in surgical procedures by managing instruments, assisting the surgical team, and maintaining the integrity of the sterile field.
  3. Carry out patient care tasks as delegated by the surgical team, ensuring a high standard of care.
  4. Conduct thorough cleaning and decontamination of the surgical area post-procedure.
  5. Maintain and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment to uphold operational standards.
  6. Assist nursing staff in documenting necessary surgical details, including implants and serial numbers.
  7. Support the surgical team by managing patient transfers and positioning during procedures.
  8. Engage in preoperative planning and preparation for patient visits, ensuring all necessary information is readily available.
  9. Address patient inquiries regarding surgical procedures as directed by the medical team.
  10. Coordinate with surgical representatives to ensure all required materials are present for surgeries.
  11. Perform casting and splinting tasks in the clinical setting as needed.
  12. Document patient histories and health information accurately in medical records.
  13. Manage wound care, including dressing changes and preparing injections.
  14. Ensure exam rooms are maintained and stocked appropriately.
  15. Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Current certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) is required, along with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Experience:

A minimum of one year of experience in a surgical technologist role is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

The role may require lifting and moving objects weighing up to 100 pounds occasionally, and up to 50 pounds frequently.

Security Considerations:

This position may involve responsibilities that are security sensitive.

Residency Requirement:

Candidates must reside and work within the state of Texas.
