Job Description and Duties

The Air Quality Engineer I performs staff-level engineering work within the Certification and Schools Support Unit at the Department of Consumer Affairs. Key responsibilities include technical support for the Smog Check Program, evaluation and reporting of Smog Check Program effectiveness, and support for Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) Enforcement-related activities.

Additionally, the incumbent will provide technical support for the development and certification of new inspection equipment. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Working Conditions

The incumbent will work in an office setting, laboratory, and in the field, with varying temperatures and weather conditions. Safety equipment and procedures will be required, and the incumbent will be expected to stand for long periods, lift materials/equipment, and perform housekeeping duties in the laboratory.

Special Requirements

  • Medical Clearance prior to being hired
  • Pass a medical exam to ensure fitness
