Job Summary:
The Procurement Specialist is responsible for ensuring the continuous and cost-effective supply of materials, services, and equipment to meet the needs of manufacturing operations at Inter-Coastal Electronics, Inc. They ensure the timely processing of orders and the maintenance of inventory through schedule planning, product requirements, sourcing, and procurement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serves as liaison between Inter-Coastal Electronics, Inc. and suppliers in support of contract manufacturing and build-to-print parts.
- Coordinates purchasing activities with manufacturing, planning, and engineering departments to meet the production schedule.
- Performs requirements analysis on components prior to acting on MRP.
- Solicits proposals, negotiates price and terms, and issues purchase orders, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Determines and documents purchasing specifications and performance requirements on purchase orders.
- Maintains organization of supplier lead times, MOQ, volume price breaks, and promised delivery dates.
- Analyzes manufacturing requirements, engineering design, and/or technical data when necessary.
- Creates and maintains mutually beneficial long-term partnerships with suppliers to foster supply continuity, process understanding, continuous improvement, and transparency.
- Assists in timely disposition and corrective actions for non-conforming purchased materials with quality team members and vendors.
- Resolves invoicing issues with accounting and suppliers.
- Identifies, investigates, and recommends potential and existing suppliers.
- Helps identify internal and external risks in our supply chain, conducts research, and offers solutions.
- Leads special projects as assigned.
- Assists in creating and implementing department procedures.
- Helps with Obsolescence Report.
- Performs end of year Supplier Evaluations per AS9100.
- Performs other duties as needed for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the Materials Department.
Problem Solving and Discretion/Latitude:
- Frequent use and general knowledge of industry practices, techniques, and standards.
- Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity, and refers to policies and practice for guidance.
- Works under general direction.
- Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment and overall adequacy and accuracy.
Knowledge/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of purchasing experience, or continued education toward degree and at least 8 years of purchasing experience.
- Government contractor experience preferred.
- Manufacturing or engineering industry purchasing experience required.
