The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Debt Collection Specialist to join its Financial Recovery Section. As a key member of the team, you will play a critical role in advancing the interests of Virginia taxpayers by providing legal support and expertise in debt collection.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough claim investigations, including locating debtors, evidence, and assets.
- Issue legal demands for payment and negotiate settlements and payment plans.
- Prepare and file legal documents, including warrants in debt, in various state courts.
- Respond to inquiries from client agencies, debtors, insurers, attorneys, and court personnel.
- Maintain accurate document and file control.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to prioritize high-volume caseloads and work independently and as a team member.
- Considerable knowledge of legal principles, practices, and processes.
- Word processing skills and proficiency in case management database software.
- Minimum of three years of experience in debt collection, plaintiffs' litigation, or insurance defense.
- Experience with JST Collect max software or similar case management database software.
