Job Summary

Join the Virginia Department of Forensic Science as a Forensic Laboratory Specialist II in the Central Laboratory. This role involves assisting forensic biologists and DNA examiners with evidence preservation, handling, and supervised recovery of evidentiary crime scene materials. Key responsibilities include DNA casework support functions, quality control of critical reagents and equipment, and general laboratory upkeep.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist forensic biologists and DNA examiners with evidence preservation, handling, and supervised recovery of evidentiary crime scene materials
  • Provide DNA casework support functions, including sample preparation, DNA quantitation, dilutions, and amplification setup
  • Perform quality control of critical reagents and equipment, and maintain QA/QC documentation
  • Assist with general laboratory upkeep, including maintaining the tidiness of the laboratory and restocking consumable supplies
Requirements
  • Experience working in a scientific laboratory environment using basic laboratory equipment, techniques, and laboratory safety procedures
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, analyze and interpret data, follow written protocols and oral instructions, manage multiple tasks efficiently, establish work priorities, and independently perform routine duties
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner, both verbally and in writing
  • Valid driver's license and/or other means of reliable transportation
