About the Role:
The Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) is integral to the Department of State's comprehensive approach to combatting transnational crime. Focused on enhancing criminal justice frameworks, disrupting illegal drug trafficking, building capacity, reducing corruption, and addressing various forms of transnational crime, INL's Office of Western Hemisphere Programs (INL/WHP) is pivotal in orchestrating U.S. foreign assistance in the region. INL/WHP's initiatives are customized to strengthen the capabilities of partner nations through multilateral, regional, and country-specific programs.
Dexis' Performance Measurement, Management, and Analysis Support contract with INL/WHP involves the development of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) policies and procedures; establishing reliable performance metrics; managing and executing data collection efforts across the hemisphere; and creating a robust M&E data management, analysis, and reporting system along with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
The Editorial Specialist and Reporting Analyst will support Dexis' INL/WHP project team by leveraging data to guide strategic programming, highlight trends and insights, and fulfill analysis and reporting requirements. This task-focused role will ensure that all reports generated under this project are clear, accurate, and feature appropriate data visualizations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review work products to ensure clarity, logical structure, and grammatical accuracy.
- Align text with INL/WHP writing standards and verify factual accuracy while raising inquiries with authors.
- Identify potential legal or public relations concerns and consult with the relevant M&E Specialist or Contracting Officer's Representative (COR).
- Ensure the correctness of illustrations and captions.
- Assist M&E Specialists and Data Management Specialists with proofreading, light data analysis, quality assurance across reporting platforms and visualizations, survey creation, infographic development, video production and editing, graphic design for analytical outputs, and other assigned tasks.
This individual may also be called upon to assist with additional duties as needed. This is a part-time position, defined as a minimum of a 20-hour work week.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a MRPT certification.
- Seven (7) years of experience in copy editing.
- Experience with governmental reporting.
- Proficient in gathering, analyzing, writing, and creating original descriptive content as required.
- Demonstrated ability to translate technical information into accessible, readable content for a general audience.
- Capable of supporting internal and external communications and summarizing information concisely.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to collaborate closely with a team to produce high-quality, low-error professional materials.
- Thorough knowledge of grammar, style, tone, and consistency.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to excellence.
- Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools such as PowerBi or Tableau.
- Located in the D.C. metro area and able to work in the INL/WHP office space.
- FSI Level 4/4 English proficiency or equivalent.
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Proficient in and willing to utilize all Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Teams for effective communication with the INL/WHP team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in writing news articles, creating website content, and providing social media support.
- Experience in developing concise reporting materials such as one-pagers using platforms like Canva, Adobe, or MS Suite.
- Interest in learning to use video editing software such as Camtasia.
- Willingness to learn and grow in the role, demonstrating ambition to acquire new skills and apply project knowledge effectively.
- Experience with Microsoft's PowerBi.
- Background in ghostwriting.
- Experience working with the U.S. Department of State, Department of Justice, USAID, or similar governmental entities.
- Experience supporting Non-Governmental Organizations.
- Proficiency in Spanish, French, or Dutch is a plus.
