Job Title: Managing Editor

Job Summary: Sparks Group is seeking a skilled Managing Editor to join our team. As a key member of our editorial department, you will be responsible for coordinating editorial production for multiple journals, overseeing the peer-review process, and developing strategies for improving production functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate editorial production for five (5) journals, including administrative management of the electronic manuscript submission system.
  • Oversee the peer-review process and production functions, and develop strategies for improving these areas.
  • Use journal reporting tools to create and analyze reports and create data as desired by editorial boards of our journals.
  • Manage the journal's electronic submission system, Editorial Manager.
  • Develop and implement social media strategies to promote manuscripts on LinkedIn and Twitter.
  • Maintain and update standard operating procedures for journal processes.
  • Identify and leverage opportunities for content sharing across the journal family and other publications.
  • Serve as the primary contact for the journals, coordinating with internal departments and external partners.
  • Manage correspondence between copyeditors and publisher.
  • Manage author correspondence at galley and proof stages.

Requirements:

  • BS/BA degree required.
  • 3+ years of experience in an editorial office, preferably with peer-reviewed journals.
  • Proven experience collaborating with Editorial Boards, senior executives, Councils, and Committees.
  • Familiarity with journal profit and loss management.
  • Strong copyediting and writing abilities.
  • Ability to juggle multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously.
  • Exceptional grammar and spelling proficiency.
  • Capable of meeting deadlines and collaborating effectively with others.
  • Experience with peer review and production management tools.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is advantageous.
