Position Overview

As a Commercial Lines Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in managing and nurturing relationships with agents while ensuring the profitability of your assigned portfolio. Your expertise will contribute to the overall success of our organization, Central Mutual Insurance Company, by delivering exceptional service and maintaining the highest standards of integrity and excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and sustain robust relationships with agents, including necessary travel for agency interactions.
  • Provide timely and professional communication to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams, including underwriting, loss control, customer service, claims, and marketing.
  • Analyze risks to select profitable new business opportunities, considering coverage requests and historical loss data.
  • Utilize underwriting judgment and analytical tools to accurately classify and price risks.
  • Manage and underwrite your designated book of business to achieve profitability and meet financial targets.
  • Contribute insights and data to support strategic underwriting initiatives.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development and education.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or a minimum of 2 years of experience in the insurance industry.
  • Alternatively, 4 years of relevant insurance experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of Commercial Lines coverages and policies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage professionally with clients.
  • Ability to investigate, gather, and analyze relevant information.
  • Understanding of the significance of accurate data capture.
  • Innovative mindset focused on continuous improvement.
  • Positive, professional, and service-oriented attitude.
  • Capacity to perform under pressure and manage a demanding workload.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation and presentation abilities.
  • Familiarity with Central Mutual Insurance Company's policies and procedures.
  • Willingness to travel to meet with assigned agents, including occasional overnight trips.
