Position Title: Custodian 1

Overview:

This role is essential for maintaining the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of the facilities and surrounding areas at the Alaska SeaLife Center.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a minimum of one year of experience in a comparable role. Experience in customer service is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Execute appropriate cleaning protocols for both the interior and exterior of the facility.
  2. Ensure a high standard of cleanliness across various surfaces by utilizing appropriate cleaning agents and equipment, while exercising caution to prevent damage to valuable materials.
  3. Understand and adhere to the MSDS system and OSHA's hazard communication standards.
  4. Assist in the upkeep of the grounds, including sidewalks, parking areas, and handrails.
  5. Follow verbal and written instructions regarding cleaning procedures.
  6. Exhibit knowledge of safety protocols.
  7. Operate various cleaning tools and machinery, including vacuums and washers.
  8. Prepare spaces for events by setting up furniture and equipment as needed.
  9. Work on a rotating shift schedule, with potential overtime requirements.
  10. Maintain a valid driver's license.
  11. Promote positive interactions with visitors, volunteers, and staff by fostering a cooperative environment.
  12. Adhere to all policies and procedures set forth by the Alaska SeaLife Center.
  13. Possess basic skills in Microsoft Word and Excel, along with familiarity with email communication.
  14. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch; utilize arms and hands; handle objects and tools; and sit. Capability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.

Position Title: Custodian 2

Overview:

This role encompasses the responsibility for maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the facilities and grounds, including supervising custodial staff and overseeing training programs.

Qualifications:

A high school diploma or GED is required, along with three years of custodial experience. Supervisory experience is preferred, as is experience in public-facing roles.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, execute, and oversee all custodial operations, ensuring high standards of safety and cleanliness.
  2. Provide training and guidance to custodial staff.
  3. Establish performance benchmarks for team members and recommend personnel actions to management.
  4. Monitor supply inventory and initiate reordering as necessary.
  5. Advise on the selection of appropriate cleaning supplies and equipment.
  6. Implement proper cleaning protocols for the facility.
  7. Maintain exceptional cleanliness across various surfaces using appropriate cleaning agents and equipment.
  8. Stay informed about MSDS/SDS systems and hazardous communication standards.
  9. Assist in the maintenance of the grounds and surrounding areas.
  10. Follow directives for cleaning procedures as provided.
  11. Demonstrate knowledge of safety practices.
  12. Operate various cleaning equipment and tools.
  13. Maintain certifications in First Aid/CPR and Bloodborne Pathogens.
  14. Prepare spaces for events by arranging furniture and equipment.
  15. Maintain a valid driver's license.
  16. Foster positive relationships with visitors, volunteers, and staff.
  17. Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Alaska SeaLife Center.
  18. Perform additional duties as assigned.
