Position Title: Custodian 1

Overview:

This role is accountable for ensuring the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of the facilities and surrounding areas at the Alaska SeaLife Center.

Qualifications:

At least one year of experience in a comparable role is required. Experience in customer service is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Execute appropriate cleaning procedures for both the interior and exterior of the facility.
  2. Uphold a diverse range of surfaces to an exceptionally high standard of cleanliness by effectively utilizing various cleaning agents, materials, and equipment. The unique and valuable nature of the materials necessitates careful handling to prevent damage.
  3. Be knowledgeable about the MSDS system and OSHA's hazard communication standards.
  4. Assist in the upkeep and sanitation of the Center's grounds, including sidewalks, parking areas, driveways, and handrails.
  5. Receive and adhere to both verbal and written instructions regarding cleaning protocols.
  6. Exhibit a solid understanding of safety procedures.
  7. Operate various hand and power tools, including vacuums and washers.
  8. Prepare tables, chairs, and other necessary equipment for events.
  9. Work on a rotating shift schedule and may be required to work overtime.
  10. Maintain a valid driver's license.
  11. Promote positive interactions with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and fellow staff members by fostering goodwill and high service standards.
  12. Adhere to all policies, procedures, and programs of the Alaska SeaLife Center.
  13. Possess basic skills in Microsoft Word and Excel, along with familiarity with email.
  14. Perform additional related duties as assigned.

The physical demands outlined must be met by the employee to successfully execute the essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch; utilize arms and hands; handle objects, tools, and controls; and sit. Capability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.

Position Title: Custodian 2

Overview:

This role is responsible for the cleanliness and appearance of the facilities and grounds, including supervising all custodial staff and training at the Alaska SeaLife Center.

Qualifications:

A high school diploma or GED and three years of custodial experience are required. Supervisory experience is preferred, along with experience in customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, participate in, and oversee all custodial activities, ensuring high standards of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency.
  2. Provide training for custodial staff members.
  3. Establish performance benchmarks for staff and recommend personnel actions to the Safety and Security Manager.
  4. Continuously monitor supply inventory and submit re-order requests.
  5. Advise on suitable supplies, tools, and equipment.
  6. Implement proper cleaning procedures for the facility's interior and exterior.
  7. Maintain a high level of cleanliness across various surfaces by using appropriate cleaning agents and equipment, ensuring careful handling to avoid damage.
  8. Stay informed about MSDS/SDS systems and hazardous communication.
  9. Assist in maintaining and cleaning the Center's grounds, sidewalks, parking lots, driveways, and handrails.
  10. Follow verbal and written directives regarding cleaning procedures.
  11. Demonstrate a solid understanding of safety protocols.
  12. Operate various hand and power cleaning equipment.
  13. Maintain First Aid/CPR and Bloodborne Pathogen certifications.
  14. Set up tables, chairs, and other equipment for events as needed.
  15. Maintain a valid driver's license.
  16. Foster positive relationships with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and fellow staff members by promoting goodwill and high service standards.
  17. Comply with all policies, procedures, and programs of the Alaska SeaLife Center.
  18. Perform additional related duties as assigned.
