The Amazon Devices team is at the forefront of designing innovative consumer electronics, including the renowned Amazon Echo, FireTV, Fire Tablets, Kindle, and Astro product lines.

Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated individual contributor with a robust background in video processing and picture quality algorithm development, along with experience in implementing these algorithms in silicon.

Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Picture Quality (PQ) Architect, your primary responsibility will be to define the picture quality standards for display-centric consumer products such as TVs, Echo Show, and streaming media devices, as well as various new concepts that are yet to be revealed.

You will act as the principal technical liaison for product management and business teams, helping to interpret and clarify the desired user experience and requirements regarding picture quality.

Your role will involve:

  • Defining the picture quality preferences for each product and collaborating closely with the PQ tuning team to deliver distinctive and innovative picture quality.
  • Conducting thorough analyses of both in-house and third-party solutions related to specific PQ features and proposing development plans for PQ algorithms to enhance existing or new features.
  • Driving critical design decisions regarding the optimal combination of PQ features to support various use cases for specific products.
  • Documenting proposals and decisions in a PQ architecture specification document, providing essential design guidance for engineering and PQ tuning teams.

Market Trends and Technology Roadmaps
In addition to direct product PQ architecture tasks, you will monitor market trends and standards in multimedia pipelines, video processing, and display processing. You will interface directly with silicon and IP vendors, defining roadmaps for the organization concerning next-generation video picture quality IPs and standards.

Collaboration and Leadership
You will serve as a key contact for senior leadership in this technology domain, regularly presenting roadmap updates to executives. Your role will also involve diving deep into video pipelines and interfaces, defining specifications for next-gen silicon platforms, and collaborating with silicon vendors for implementation.

Engagement Throughout Development
As the product evolves from initial concept through prototype development, validation, and production, you will remain engaged as the system technical lead, ensuring that product requirements are met. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including Program Managers, Software Developers, Silicon and IP architects, and ML Scientists.

Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of industry experience in video/display processing and PQ customization, supported by documented achievements.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly document and present technical designs.
  • Experience with video codecs, video algorithm development, and multimedia IPs and architectures.
  • Proficiency in algorithm development and programming in MATLAB, C, C++, and Python.

Preferred Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have:

  • Expertise in defining the optimal combination of TV PQ features for various use cases.
  • 8+ years of experience in developing TV processing algorithms, including practical experience with HDR video processing.
  • Familiarity with objective methods for picture quality assessment.
  • Experience with AI/ML approaches in TV processing and compression.
  • Experience architecting multimedia systems with display, graphics, and video codec features.
