The Amazon Devices team is at the forefront of designing innovative consumer electronics, including popular products like the Amazon Echo, FireTV, Fire Tablets, Kindle, and Astro.

We are seeking a dedicated individual contributor with a robust background in video processing and picture quality algorithm development, along with experience in implementing these algorithms in silicon.

Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Picture Quality (PQ) Architect, you will:

  • Define picture quality standards for display-centric consumer products, including TVs, Echo Show, and streaming media devices.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison for product management and business teams, interpreting user experience requirements related to picture quality.
  • Establish the picture quality benchmarks for each product and collaborate closely with the PQ tuning team to achieve distinctive and innovative picture quality.
  • Conduct thorough analyses of both internal and external solutions regarding specific PQ features and propose development plans for PQ algorithms to enhance existing or new features.
  • Drive essential design decisions, ensuring the right mix of PQ features supports various use cases for specific products, and document these in a PQ architecture specification.
  • Monitor market trends and standards in multimedia pipelines, video processing, and display processing, while interfacing with silicon and IP vendors to define organizational roadmaps for next-generation video picture quality IPs and standards.
  • Serve as a key contact for senior leadership in this technology domain, regularly presenting roadmap updates to executives.
  • Engage deeply with video pipelines and interfaces, defining specifications for next-gen silicon platforms and collaborating with silicon vendors for implementation.
  • Stay involved throughout the product development lifecycle, from initial concept through to production, ensuring product requirements are met.

Collaboration
You will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams, including Program Managers, Software Developers, Silicon and IP architects, and ML Scientists.

About the Team
The system architecture team is responsible for architecting a wide range of Amazon Lab126 products, including Echo, Fire Tablets, FireTV, Kindle eReaders, Hearables, Wearables, and IoT devices. The team also manages chipset and IP technology roadmaps, driving strategies that enable reuse and scalability across Amazon devices.

Qualifications
Basic:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in video/display processing and PQ customization, with documented achievements.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to present technical designs clearly.
  • Experience with video codecs, algorithm development, and multimedia IPs.
  • Proficiency in algorithm development and programming using MATLAB, C, C++, and Python.
Preferred:
  • Expertise in defining optimal combinations of TV PQ features for various use cases.
  • 8+ years of experience in developing TV processing algorithms, including practical experience with HDR video processing.
  • Familiarity with objective methods for picture quality assessment.
  • Experience with AI/ML approaches to TV processing and compression.
  • Experience in architecting multimedia systems with display and video codec features.
  • Knowledge of heterogeneous SoC architectures.
