Position Overview

Healthcare Assistant - Surgical Support

Shift Schedule: 12 Hour Shifts

Compensation: $2,500 Hiring Bonus available for eligible external candidates who meet all conditions for payment, in addition to a comprehensive benefits and compensation package.

This role is essential for the smooth and timely transfer of patients as directed, along with other responsibilities assigned by the supervising manager or designee. The Healthcare Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting patient care and departmental activities under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate under the supervision of the RN to deliver care and services to patients and their families, following directives for task delegation.
  • Assist in the transfer of patients into and out of transport vehicles (wheelchair, stretcher, bed) and between various care areas.
  • Conduct transport duties with professionalism and courtesy, ensuring timely assistance while addressing patient needs appropriately.
  • Document all daily activities and care provided to patients accurately and legibly, including any unusual or complex issues.
  • Provide patient care as directed by the RN, which may include tasks such as making and changing beds, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), and monitoring vital signs.
  • Respect patient privacy and confidentiality, maintaining the dignity of patients and their families.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in meeting patient care goals and communicate effectively with team members regarding workload and patient needs.
  • Answer unit telephones and patient call systems in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff and other team members to prioritize functions necessary for patient care and discharge.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of patient areas and equipment, ensuring readiness for patient use.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of new staff members, contributing to a positive team environment.

Qualifications:

  • Upon hire: Valid Nursing Assistant Certification License.
  • Upon hire: Current National Provider BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Experience requirements include:
  • Six months of acute care experience or one year of skilled nursing experience.
  • Experience may be waived for applicants with demonstrated customer service experience in healthcare or those enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
