Facility and Division Information

The Asheville Manufacturing facility operates within the Laboratory Products Division of Thermo Fisher Scientific. Our laboratory equipment is primarily utilized by pharmaceutical companies for drug discovery and development, as well as by biotechnology firms and academic institutions for life science research aimed at disease prevention and treatment enhancement. Our offerings include equipment, accessories, and services for sample preparation, storage, and protection, all designed for various controlled temperature applications.

Your Role and Impact:

In this position, you will execute a diverse range of assembly tasks on product components, assemblies, or sub-assemblies to produce essential laboratory equipment and medical devices. Your commitment to safety and quality will ensure that products meet specified standards within designated timeframes. Collaboration with colleagues to troubleshoot issues and promote continuous improvement will be key aspects of your role.

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Select and assemble appropriate components in the correct sequence, utilizing tools such as drills, rivet guns, and other hand tools to meet specifications.
  • Interpret standard operating procedures and electrical wiring diagrams to ensure accurate assembly.
  • Conduct inspections of parts during sub-assembly and at critical checkpoints to confirm adherence to quality standards before advancing to the next stage.
  • Utilize the SAP system to input product-related data and track component serial numbers, production rates, and physical locations.
  • Manage the ordering and retrieval of supplies and materials using both paper and SAP documentation.
  • Apply your knowledge and experience to troubleshoot work-related challenges and seek assistance when necessary.
  • Test assembled units, ensuring cleanliness and proper packaging of the final product.
  • Participate in cross-training and flexibility across different cells to support team success.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications for Success:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Preferred Experience:

  • At least one year of relevant experience in a manufacturing, construction, maintenance, or industrial environment.
  • Prior experience in multi-component manufacturing processes is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, 5S methodology, and continuous improvement practices is a plus.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read and distinguish part numbers, labels, and work instructions effectively.
  • Physical capability to stand, bend, reach, and handle bulky components, with frequent lifting of up to 35 pounds.
  • Proficient computer and keyboarding skills.
