Facility Information
The Asheville Manufacturing facility operates within the Laboratory Products Division of Thermo Fisher Scientific. Our laboratory equipment is primarily utilized by pharmaceutical firms for drug discovery and development, as well as by biotechnology companies and academic institutions for life science research aimed at disease prevention and treatment, enhancing overall quality of life. Our product range includes equipment, accessories, and services designed for sample preparation, storage, and protection, across various controlled temperature solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
You will carry out a diverse range of assembly tasks on product components, assemblies, or sub-assemblies to produce essential laboratory equipment and medical devices. Your role will involve ensuring safety and maintaining the highest quality standards within designated takt times. Collaboration with colleagues to resolve issues and foster continuous improvement will be vital.
Daily Activities:
- Select appropriate components and assemble them in the correct order using various methods such as drilling, riveting, and soldering to meet specifications.
- Interpret standard operating procedures and electrical wiring diagrams to ensure accurate assembly.
- Conduct inspections during sub-assembly and at critical stages to verify that the unit meets established quality criteria before proceeding to the next workstation.
- Utilize a variety of hand tools, including drills and rivet guns.
- Input product-related data into the SAP system to track component serial numbers, production rates, and other relevant information.
- Order and retrieve materials such as packaging supplies using documentation and the SAP system.
- Address work-related challenges by applying your knowledge and experience to find solutions and seek assistance when necessary.
- Test assembled units, ensuring they are cleaned and packed appropriately.
- Participate in cross-training and flexibility across different cells to enhance team success.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Preferred Experience:
- At least one year of demonstrated experience in a manufacturing, construction, maintenance, or industrial environment.
- Prior experience in multi-component manufacturing processes is advantageous.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, 5S methodology, and continuous improvement practices is a plus.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to read and differentiate part numbers, labels, and work instructions.
- Physical capability to stand, bend, reach, and handle heavy components, frequently lifting up to 35 pounds.
- Proficient in computer use and keyboarding skills.
