Position SummaryThe Computer Help Desk Technician I is tasked with delivering initial technical assistance to users. This role encompasses addressing and resolving fundamental technical problems, maintaining and updating computer systems, and ensuring a high standard of user satisfaction. The technician will operate under the supervision of IT management to guarantee the effective functioning and support of IT services.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Assistance:
- Address user inquiries through various communication channels.
- Identify and rectify basic technical issues related to hardware, software, and network connectivity.
- Refer more complicated issues to advanced support personnel as needed.
System Upkeep:
- Conduct regular maintenance and updates on computer systems and software.
- Install and set up new hardware and software applications.
- Ensure optimal performance of all systems.
User Support:
- Deliver exceptional customer service to end users.
- Maintain a courteous and professional attitude while assisting users.
- Follow up with users to confirm resolution of issues and satisfaction.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Record all support activities, including problem resolution and user interactions.
- Keep accurate logs of hardware and software inventory.
- Prepare reports on support activities as required.
Training and Development:
- Assist in educating end users on hardware and software usage.
- Stay informed about the latest technology trends and advancements.
- Participate in special projects as directed by IT management.
Education:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate's degree in a related field or relevant technical certifications (such as CompTIA A+, Network+, etc.) is preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of two years of experience in computer support, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel) and diagnostic software.
This role typically operates in an office setting. Occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary to address urgent technical issues or to perform system upgrades. The ability to lift and transport computer equipment is required, along with the capacity to sit for extended periods while engaged in computer-related tasks.
