East Hartford, Connecticut, United States Complete Staffing Full time
Position: Senior Manufacturing Engineer

Compensation: $120,000 - $130,000

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer serves as a key authority on manufacturing processes for precision machined components.

This position is tasked with the formulation of manufacturing techniques and operational documentation derived from the interpretation of client technical data, specifications, and contractual agreements.

As a subject matter expert, this role will evaluate the work of peers, offer troubleshooting assistance to production teams, and make informed decisions regarding the interpretation of client and industry specifications and standards.

When necessary, this position will innovate advanced manufacturing techniques through the exploration of new machinery, technologies, methodologies, workholding solutions, and cutting-edge tooling.

Key Responsibilities:

Analyze and interpret client specifications regarding material characteristics, specialized processes (finishes, coatings, heat treatments, etc.), part identification, geometric tolerances (GD&T), and other critical quality attributes essential for component fabrication.

Develop 3D models, 2D operational documentation, and related technical instructions to fabricate client components in accordance with specifications.

Collaborate with various sources of manufacturing and design data (ERP, MRP, CAD, CAM, CNC, etc.) to create a comprehensive and fully validated engineering technical package for the production floor (e.g., Operational Sheets / Traveler).

Ensure that manufacturing software (ERP/MRP) aligns with CAD data, bill of materials, and method sequences.
Conduct peer reviews of colleagues' work for compliance before releasing jobs to production.
Adhere to engineering change management protocols (ECO/ECR/ECN), control measures, and documentation standards.
Provide real-time troubleshooting for manufacturing challenges on the production floor.

Assess potential non-conforming components against client specifications to determine the appropriate course of action—whether to process as-is, rework, or scrap the component/job.

Optimize process costs, including labor, materials, setup, machinery, and inspection expenses.
Engage in research through webinars, journals, periodicals, and trade shows, applying learned insights to enhance business practices.
Deliver training and peer support as the subject matter expert to facilitate knowledge transfer.
Identify inefficiencies within processes; utilize lean tools and methodologies to drive improvements.
Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Associate degree in manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, or mechanical engineering is preferred.
Certification in Manufacturing Engineering from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers or relevant progressive work experience may also be considered.

10+ years of experience in manufacturing within a machining or contract manufacturing setting.

Expertise in interpreting and enforcing aerospace client blueprints/GD&T standards, specialized process specifications, raw material specifications, and relevant industry standards.

Previous experience with clients such as Collins Aerospace, Hamilton Sundstrand, Pratt & Whitney is preferred. Other OEMs such as GE, Kaman, Sikorsky, etc., will also be considered.

Proficiency in developing process documentation in one or more of the following manufacturing methods: multi-axis turning, Swiss screw machining, turning, multi-axis milling, and/or grinding.

Strong understanding of manufacturing with advanced, difficult-to-machine alloys to precision tolerances, and how this knowledge applies to manufacturing methods, workholding, tooling selection, fixturing, and size development throughout the progressive operation sequence.
Demonstrated capability to create 3D models, 2D process documentation, and supporting technical data. SolidWorks experience is preferred.

Proficient in database tools for file management and information technology tools for data collection and analysis, such as ERP, MRP, or PDM systems. Experience with EPCIOR ERP and SolidWorks EPDM is a plus.
