Position Overview

A-Alpha Bio is a pioneering drug discovery firm based in Seattle, WA, focused on revolutionizing the development of impactful therapeutics. Our approach integrates high-throughput synthetic biology to assess protein-protein interactions at scale with advanced machine learning techniques to forecast protein binding behaviors. We collaborate with top pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms to facilitate the discovery of antibodies, molecular glues, and other drugs related to protein interactions. Additionally, we leverage our laboratory and computational resources to create and advance an internal pipeline of biologics and molecular glues aimed at enhancing human health.

Note: This position requires relocation to Seattle, WA.

Compensation: $73,000 - $87,000 annually

Employment Status: Exempt

Supervisor: Senior Scientist, Protein Science

Role Responsibilities

We are on a mission to enhance human health by exploring the potential of protein-protein interactions. We are currently looking for a Research Associate II to join our Protein Science team, focusing on expanding our mammalian protein production capabilities.

  • Assist in the design and assembly of antibody-like molecules for therapeutic assessment.
  • Utilize strong sterile techniques to perform mammalian cell transfections for expressing designed molecules.
  • Support the purification and characterization of proteins developed through your contributions.
Key Duties
  • Execute molecular biology protocols and create protein expression constructs.
  • Manage the upkeep of cell cultures for protein production.
  • Conduct transient transfection experiments using appropriate cell lines.
  • Prepare transfectant supernatants for subsequent protein purification processes.
  • Maintain detailed records of protein expression activities in an electronic lab notebook and update the internal protein database.
  • Engage in learning opportunities related to downstream protein characterization and functional assays.
  • Present findings and experimental outcomes during interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications & ExperienceRequired
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline with 2+ years of experience in an industrial biotechnology setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques such as Gibson Assembly.
  • Experience in designing and ordering oligonucleotides and gene fragments.
  • Familiarity with construct sequence verification.
  • Understanding of protein production processes in a startup environment.
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities.
  • Capability to collaborate within dynamic startup teams.
  • Self-driven, intellectually curious, and enthusiastic about interdisciplinary research in a fast-paced setting.
Preferred
  • Experience with transient protein expression at a small to medium scale.
  • Familiarity with specific cell culture techniques.
  • Expertise in biolayer interferometry assays.
  • Knowledge of protein biophysical characterization methods.
  • Experience in antibody formatting and optimizing protein expression.
