We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Scientist who will spearhead the development of innovative technologies at the Allen Institute, aimed at uncovering new insights into cellular functions. This position involves the creation and application of novel technologies across various platforms, including single-cell and spatial analysis. These advancements will be utilized in studies focusing on cellular health, disease mechanisms, and therapeutic interventions.

Candidates must demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to evaluate existing tools and identify gaps in technology. The ideal candidate will have a keen attention to detail and a passion for working in a collaborative, deadline-oriented environment. Key contributions will include advancements in technology, scholarly publications, and intellectual property development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the innovation and implementation of advanced technologies to enhance our understanding of cellular biology, including the development of new methodologies and techniques.
  • Engage in strategic discussions to pinpoint critical research areas and technological gaps where innovative solutions can have a substantial impact.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and identify opportunities for novel insights.
  • Design, conduct, and analyze experiments to advance technology development.
  • Collaborate with cell biologists to apply technologies that yield new mechanistic insights.
  • Maintain meticulous experimental records and communicate progress effectively.
  • Develop and train team members on standard operating procedures and best laboratory practices.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant life science discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong background in molecular biology with proficiency in techniques for exploring cellular regulatory networks (e.g., single-cell technologies, spatial transcriptomics, genetic manipulation).

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD with 7 or more years of experience, particularly in profiling cellular functions.
  • Proven track record in technology development or application, evidenced by publications or patents.
  • Demonstrated success in troubleshooting and enhancing existing technologies.
  • Experience in handling and manipulating cellular samples.
  • Proficiency in analyzing next-generation sequencing data using programming languages (e.g., R, Python, Bash).
  • Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).

Work Environment

  • Laboratory setting with potential exposure to biohazards and advanced equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Fine motor skills required for operating laboratory equipment and computers; repetitive motions may be necessary.
  • Capability to perform tasks involving stooping, bending, and crouching.

Work Schedule

  • Flexibility to work outside of standard hours as needed.
  • This position offers a hybrid work environment, allowing for both remote and onsite work arrangements.
