The Office of Income Taxation, within the Division of Corporation Tax, is currently seeking a Revenue Auditor I for the Governmental Programs Section.
We are looking for a dedicated individual with strong communication abilities to assist taxpayers and their representatives in resolving tax-related issues both over the phone and in person.
As a Revenue Auditor for Sacred Heart University, you will receive comprehensive training and guidance to effectively audit tax returns, ensuring the accuracy of filed returns, payments made, and any potential liabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed records and reports outlining adjustments made to tax returns.
- Educate and inform taxpayers about their tax obligations, filing deadlines, and payment responsibilities as dictated by state tax regulations and departmental policies.
- Conduct thorough research on tax laws, regulations, and policies.
- Utilize departmental resources and applications to perform in-depth audits of tax returns.
- Accurately document notes in the appropriate agency systems during audits or taxpayer interactions.
- Respond promptly and accurately to taxpayer disputes regarding additional tax liabilities or refund denials.
- Efficiently navigate computer systems to retrieve information and address taxpayer inquiries.
- Safeguard the confidentiality and security of taxpayer information and records.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills to effectively engage with taxpayers in various situations, including potentially challenging interactions.
Additional Information:
- Completion of a background investigation, including an FBI criminal history record check, is required.
- Compliance with all applicable tax laws is mandatory.
- Flexible work schedules may be available.
Education:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required, with a minimum of twenty semester hours or thirty quarter hours in accounting courses.
Experience, Training, or Skills:No prior experience is necessary.
Substitutions:Certification as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor may substitute for the educational requirements. Relevant experience in financial analysis, tax administration, or related fields may also be considered on a year-for-year basis.
Two years of professional tax experience in auditing, reviewing, or preparing various tax returns may substitute for the required accounting hours.

This position primarily involves office work, with occasional travel required.
Probationary Period:An initial probationary period of six months applies to this position.
