Agricultural Regulatory Specialist I

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Agricultural Regulatory Specialist I to join our team at the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. As a key member of our Office of Agricultural Marketing, Industrial Hemp Section, you will play a critical role in ensuring the success of our hemp program.
Key Responsibilities:- Conduct hemp grower inspections and hemp crop sample collections, verifying that plants were started from legal sources and are in compliance with regulations.
- Process hemp samples and report Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) compliance test results, witnessing the destruction of non-compliant cannabis.
- Complete hemp processor inspections, thoroughly reviewing records for documentation of THC compliance and checking for purchasing, handling, processing, and marketing of legal hemp only.
- Assist with complaint investigations by conducting scheduled and unscheduled inspections of growers' or processors' locations to check for presence or processing of illegal cannabis.
- Maintain annual program data files and develop applications, report forms, program request forms, and other compliance documents.
- Conduct reviews and approval of applications, process requests, payments, and license changes per KRS 260.862; 7 U.S.C. 1639; and 302 KAR 50.
- Compile and prepare program reports to track applications, hemp acreages, payments, and other parameters of the program.
- Coordinate the schedules of other sampling agents and assign locations for sampling.
- Interpret program policies and regulations to license holders, the public, and department employees.
- Bachelor's degree from a college or university.
- No experience required, but experience in agriculture, inspection, quality control, regulatory, chemical application, or a related field will be considered.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
This position requires travel to various locations, including stockyards, farms, businesses, and amusement parks. You will have close contact with livestock animals in such areas as stockyards, barns, and/or barnyards.
