Chief Executive Job Description

As a Chief Executive, you will be responsible for setting the overall direction and strategy of an organization. This includes determining and formulating policies, as well as providing guidance to subordinate executives and staff managers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Appoint department heads or managers and assign or delegate responsibilities to them.
  • Organize or approve promotional campaigns.
  • Interpret and explain policies, rules, regulations, or laws to organizations, government or corporate officials, or individuals.
  • Review and analyze legislation, laws, or public policy and recommend changes to promote or support interests of the general population or special groups.
  • Administer programs for selection of sites, construction of buildings, or provision of equipment or supplies.
  • Prepare bylaws approved by elected officials and ensure that bylaws are enforced.
Requirements:
  • Judgment and Decision Making: Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Complex Problem Solving: Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Speaking: Talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Critical Thinking: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Coordination: Adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.
  • Social Perceptiveness: Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
Compensation:

Chief Executives make between $68,360 and $208,000 a year, with the highest salaries found in California, District of Columbia, or Georgia.
